  • Discover why children and younger adults may experience more changes over time as their jaws continue developing.
  • Hear Dr. Huntsman explain how even his own teeth experienced small movements years after completing orthodontic treatment.
  • Gain a clearer understanding of the differences between braces and clear aligners, including treatment time, comfort, and patient responsibility.
  • Explore how orthodontic treatment can improve more than tooth alignment by helping patients feel more confident about their smiles.

In this episode…

Getting your braces off can feel like the finish line, but keeping your teeth straight may depend just as much on what happens afterward. Dr. Tyler Huntsman explains why teeth naturally want to shift after orthodontic treatment and why wearing a retainer can be one of the most important parts of protecting your new smile. So what actually happens if you stop wearing it too soon?

The conversation explores braces versus clear aligners, typical treatment timelines, and why retainers are especially important during the first six months to a year after treatment. Dr. Huntsman also explains how the bone surrounding the teeth needs time to remineralize after they have been moved. He shares his own experience of noticing slight tooth movement years after completing orthodontic treatment and discusses a memorable residency case in which orthodontics helped transform a teenager's confidence.
